The Westerville Parks and Recreation Department success is rooted in intentional planning, community support and awarded outcomes. The Community Comprehensive Plan and Department’s Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces PROS Master Plan are resident-driven and bolstered by the Department Strategic Plan. More than 12,500 citizens, along with staff, actively participated to create these plans identifying top priorities.
In 2014, Westerville voters renewed the one quarter of one percent (.025%) income tax dedicated to the parks & recreation system.
This income tax, approved six years early, speaks to the strength of PROS Master Plan rooted in community input. More than 200 partnerships and over $1,000,000 in donations for projects capture the buy-in of our citizenry and business community. Community engagement remains a key component in each major initiative including recent projects like the Community Center and First Responders Park expansion.
