The City of Westerville's Street Tree program promotes environmental sustainability and enhances the well-being of Westerville by expanding our urban canopy to improve our streetscapes. An increased number of trees contributes to improved air quality, reduced stormwater runoff, and significant carbon storage. Additionally, they enhance the aesthetic appeal of the city and can potentially increase property values.

The program is prioritizing areas currently lacking street trees and are fulfilling these as budget allows; however, residents with treeless tree lawns are encouraged to contact the City Forester to be added to the waiting list. The city will assume responsibility for the planting and subsequent care of the tree.

Species selection is carefully determined by the width of the tree lawn to ensure a healthy fit as the tree matures. Trees are categorized into small, medium, or large sizes based on the requirements of each street. While we aim to accommodate preferences, final selections depend on nursery availability, overhead utility lines, and site-specific conditions. Our priority is to plant the right tree in the right place to support a thriving and diverse urban canopy.
