The City of Westerville is proposing a trail rebuild project in Franklin County, Ohio. The project includes rebuilding the portion of the Westerville Ohio to Erie Trail from Old County Line Road to Electric Avenue with an improved 4.5" pavement profile. In addition, this project will add flashing beacons at the intersections of the Westerville Ohio to Erie Trail with Park Street, College Avenue, Broadway Avenue, Old County Line Road and Hoff Road. The construction will be a single-phase project, and all work will take place within the previous trail footprint. No off-pavement work is planned.
Construction is anticipated to begin in June 2026 and should take no more than one month.
The City of Westerville will work with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to develop and communicate a signed detour during construction. The detour will use the Alum Creek and Polaris Parkway trails from their connections to the Ohio to Erie Trail. Access to the Ohio to Erie Trail will be available at all times through this detour. Portions of the existing trail will be closed during construction.
Impacted Areas
This project is anticipated to temporarily impact access from the Westerville Ohio to Erie Trail to Hanby Park and access to the Westerville Ohio to Erie Trail itself. The trail runs alongside the western edge of Hanby Park and intersects with the west access point to the park’s picnic pavilions and restrooms. Access from the trail along the western edge of the park will not be available for one month during construction, and portions of the Ohio to Erie Trail will also be inaccessible during this time. However, Hanby Park will remain accessible through alternative sidewalk access points that will not be affected by the federally funded project. One access point is located to the northeast of the park, near the intersection of Park and Summit Street, and another to the southeast at the intersection of Summit Street and Plum Street.
Anticipated Timeline
Construction is anticipated to begin in June 2026 and will not exceed one month.
