Current Projects

Millstone Creek Playground

The area and trail around the construction zone are closed for refurbishment.
Millstone Creek playground render

A refreshed play experience is on the way at Millstone Creek. We are currently replacing the playground surfacing with new bonded rubber and installing brand-new equipment, site furniture and a replacement 17-foot bridge. The area also features upgraded planters with a new drip irrigation system. The playground and surrounding trails are currently closed for safety, and we tentatively expect to welcome the community back in August 2026, depending on the weather.

Everal Barn

Everal Barn is closed for the duration of 2026 for renovations.
Everal Barn and Homestead

The historic Everal Barn is undergoing a comprehensive interior renovation throughout 2026 to ensure it remains a beloved community landmark. We are installing modern insulation to preserve the historic structure and improve energy efficiency, alongside a full interior refresh of the flooring, lighting and HVAC systems. Guests will also benefit from updated ADA-compliant restrooms and improved warming kitchens on both the ground and second floors. The facility will remain closed for the duration of the year while these necessary improvements are completed.

Walnut Ridge Renovation

Walnut Ridge Park, Park, Reconstruction, Rendering, Wetland

Major transformations are beginning at Walnut Ridge to create a more vibrant and sustainable environment. This project features a full realignment of Walnut Ridge Run to create a functional wetland floodplain alongside rebuilt ballfields, basketball courts and a consolidated parking lot. New boardwalks and realigned trails will also be installed to enhance the natural experience. Demolition begins in April 2026, with trail closures following the week after. While most of the park will remain closed until this fall, we aim to keep the shelter and playground open for as much of the construction period as possible.

Ohio to Erie Trail Reconstruction

Westerville Bridge Over County Line Road along the Ohio to Erie Trail

We are upgrading the trail section between Old County Line Road and Electric Avenue to provide a smoother, more durable pavement profile for all users. To improve safety, this project will add new flashing beacons at the trail intersections of Park Street, College Avenue, Broadway Avenue, Old County Line Road and Hoff Road. All work will take place within the existing trail footprint starting in June 2026. During the closure, a detour will be available via the Alum Creek, Cleveland Avenue and Polaris Parkway trails.

Alkyre Run Wetland Restoration

Alkire Run Wetland aerial

We are enhancing the two-acre wetland behind the Community Center to better protect our local environment and water quality. Since Alkyre Run flows into Alum Creek, the City’s primary drinking water source, this restoration is vital for habitat health and floodplain management. The project includes native plantings, invasive species treatment and specialized grading, all made possible through a federal grant via the Ohio EPA. Final work is scheduled to begin in May 2026 and should take approximately six weeks to complete.

Deferred - Metzger Park

We are taking a phased approach to the future of Metzger Park. After prioritizing the installation of a new roof for the community center, we are now integrating the long-term vision for this park into our Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) public engagement process. We look forward to sharing more updates as we bring these improvements to life over the next several years.
