ALERT: Westerville Utility Customers
The City of Westerville has been alerted to fraudulent phone calls to Westerville utility customers in which the caller is claiming to provide information or may ask questions about the electric portion of the bill.
The Westerville Electric Division or Utility Billing Division is NOT calling customers seeking to confirm or change information related to any utility services.
Ask any unknown callers for specific information, including business name, mailing address, phone number, website and federal tax identification information.
REMEMBER: The City of Westerville DOES NOT request credit card numbers over the telephone.
The Westerville Division of Police recommends treating any unexpected contact requiring personal or financial information as suspect. In addition, the public should remember these tips:
- Reputable organizations will not require advance payments. Even if you play the lottery or enter sweepstakes, be cautious if contacted. Make sure you understand the protocol of how winnings would be collected in the games you play.
- Talk to other adult members in your family about any contacts made from unknown sources, particularly requesting payments or financial information.
- If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- When in doubt, contact the Westerville Division of Police for assistance.
If you or anyone you know has received similar calls, please call the Westerville Division of Police non-emergency number at (614) 882-7444.
